Tinsel & Tradition: A St. Charles Holiday

Day 1 – Thursday, December 3 (D) – Amana, IA

Our festive journey begins with departures from designated pickup locations and comfort stops along the way. After lunch on your own, we arrive at the charming Amana Colonies for their beloved Prelude to Christmas celebration, filled with twinkling lights, festive music, and small-town cheer. We then check in at the beautifully restored Hotel Millwright and gather for a cozy, holiday-themed group dinner. The evening concludes with a private viewing of the magical Tannenbaum Forest, a dazzling display of more than 60 uniquely decorated Christmas trees inside a rustic timber-framed barn

Day 2 – Friday, December 4 (B, L) – St. Charles, MO

Following breakfast, we travel to Hannibal, Missouri, for a guided tour of Mark Twain’s childhood home and museum, where his literary legacy comes to life. After a group lunch in Hannibal’s historic downtown, we continue to St. Charles and check into the Drury Plaza Hotel. That evening, explore the St. Charles Christmas Traditions on your own—featuring twinkling lights, gingerbread villages, roasted chestnuts, and the quirky Krampus Karnival with international holiday characters and festive games. Dinner is on your own.

Day 3 – Saturday, December 5 (B, L) – St. Charles, MO

The day begins with a guided tour of historic St. Charles, where stories and seasonal decor bring Missouri’s heritage to life. Enjoy a group lunch at a local favorite before more time to explore the St. Charles Christmas Traditions. Wander cobblestone streets filled with carolers, whimsical characters, sweet treats, and festive storefronts. In the evening, witness Las Posadas, a touching reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for shelter, followed by the peaceful Candlelight Procession that fills the night with holiday spirit.

Day 4 – Sunday, December 6 (B, D) – Rockford, IL

Today’s journey continues with a visit to the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, where exhibits honor one of America’s most influential leaders. After lunch on your own, we travel to Rockford, Illinois, and check into our hotel. That evening, enjoy a visit to the beautifully illuminated Anderson Japanese Gardens (subject to availability), followed by a heartfelt farewell dinner shared with fellow travelers.

Day 5 – Monday, December 7 (B) – Home

After breakfast, we begin our return journey with a special stop at Monona Terrace—Frank Lloyd Wright’s stunning architectural masterpiece in Madison, Wisconsin. Enjoy a guided tour and a delightful cheese and wine tasting, a perfect way to toast the trip. Afterward, enjoy lunch on your own and comfort stops as we continue home, bringing with us lasting memories of a joyful holiday escape.
